Personal Identity and Self-worth

This is linked to taha wairua/spiritual well-being. It includes students:

  • being aware of their uniqueness:
    • their personal characteristics, such as gender, abilities, hobbies, and culture
    • their relationships with other people, such as family, friends, classmates, and teachers
    • the communities they are part of, such as teams, groups, clubs, and the workplace

What makes me me? Where do I belong?

  • building self-confidence by developing the skills of self-awareness, self-reflection, self-appraisal, and self-advocacy

What skills do I need to feel positive about myself and to act confidently with other people?

  • examining the social, cultural, economic, environmental, and other factors that influence their beliefs about the worth of themselves and other people

How can my relationships with others in my class help me feel good or not so good about myself and about other people?

  • identifying how attitudes and values are linked to personal identity and self-worth and how they contribute to health-enhancing or health-harming decisions.

What is important to me, and why is this so? What do I hope to achieve? What are my goals and purposes?
