Teaching and learning approaches

A range of approaches can be used when developing and implementing senior school programmes that incorporate the socio-ecological perspective and health promotion. Teachers choose an approach that is appropriate to the situation, the needs of the learner, and the particular learning context. For example, the situation could be a natural disaster, the context could be change, loss, and grief, and the teacher could decide to use the action competence learning process to examine the issues. It is necessary for teachers to recognise the importance of critical-thinking and critical action approaches for developing socio-ecological perspectives when engaging in health promotion.
